Project Overview:
Ryan Tower, a 23-story Class AA office building in the bustling Legacy West district, now stands as a testament to the power of art in transforming corporate spaces. Designed by Gensler and developed by Ryan Companies, the building serves as the global headquarters for Ryan, LLC, and will house over 750 employees alongside prominent neighbors like Liberty Mutual Insurance and JPMorgan Chase.
Artist Uprising was commissioned to curate and manage art installations that enhance the architectural sophistication designed by Gensler and reflect Ryan Companies' identity. 11 artworks selected by six distinguished artists complemented the architectural design intent and also energized key thoroughfares and gathering areas, fostering a unique sense of place. Through collaborative workshops, meticulous planning, and seamless execution, Artist Uprising ensured the artworks harmonized with the corporate ethos while adding vibrancy to the environment.
Ryan Tower stands as a landmark of elegance and creativity, showcasing how art can redefine corporate spaces. This successful collaboration underscores Artist Uprising’s ability to merge artistic innovation with corporate functionality, setting a new standard for transformative design.
About the Mural:
The visual experience at Ryan Tower Fitness Center tells a story that mirrors the journey of a fitness routine, reflecting the fluctuations of the human heart rate. Mural A, located on the right-hand side as you enter the building, symbolizes the calm anticipation before a workout begins. As the lines rise and flow toward the second wall, they depict the circular motion of repetitive exercises and the rhythm of completing a rep. The second wall represents the balance between exertion and recovery, with lines that surge and fall, mimicking the rise and fall of heart rate during a workout. On the final wall, the energy builds once more, with dynamic lines representing the final push and transition between exercises. The design culminates in an overlapping series of lines, visually completing the fitness journey. The color palette, inspired by the interior finishes, creates a cohesive connection throughout the entire building.
A Native Colombian, Steffany Brady currently resides and works in Houston TX where she has been honing her skills in mural painting. Her signature geometric style is composed of solid painted fields juxtaposed against more fluid paint swashes. Larger shapes are deconstructed via overlap with color, creating playful and vibrant compositions.
Steffany’s work is derived from her background as a graphic designer. She is passionate about architecture, pattern/textile design, color theory, and naturally occurring geometry. Her Colombian background is also reflected in her choice of colors.
Representing the diverse fabric of Houston’s residents, a 120’x30’ wall mural was design to welcome visitors, tours, staff, and members of the community in a multilingual/chevron graphic. Working with the City of Houston, we selected the top 10 most common languages in Houston to be represented in this mural. Along with thoughtful images that represent the culture, activities, passion, and uniqueness of this great city.
The colorful design was brought into the Houston First elevator lobbies, and conference room as a vertical abstract skyline that represented The Galleria, Downtown and the Energy Corridor.
